School Choice
New Jersey’s Interdistrict Public School Choice Program allows approved districts like Atlantic City High School to enroll students who reside outside the district at no cost to their families. This initiative expands educational access by giving students the opportunity to attend schools that align with their interests, and it empowers parents to select programs that best support their child’s individual strengths and goals. Through this statewide program, families gain meaningful options and greater flexibility in shaping their educational experience. By removing geographic limitations, the program encourages diversity within classrooms and fosters a learning environment enriched by students from varied backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. It also provides motivated students with access to specialized programs, advanced coursework, and extracurricular opportunities that may not be available in their home districts, promoting both academic and personal growth.
Atlantic City High School’s Choice Program—A Capstone Academy—offers two distinguished pathways: the Fine and Performing Arts Academy and the Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC). Students applying to any of these programs participate in a required interview, where they discuss their background, interests, and future aspirations in their chosen discipline. Applicants for Music, Dance, Theater, TV Production, and Radio complete an audition, while Visual Arts students submit a portfolio for review. All interviews, auditions, and portfolio evaluations are scored using standardized rubrics to ensure a fair, consistent, and meaningful selection process for every student. Beyond evaluating talent and skill, the process also considers each applicant’s motivation, work ethic, and potential for growth, ensuring that students who are admitted are well-prepared to thrive in their chosen pathway. Once enrolled, students benefit from rigorous instruction, mentorship from experienced faculty, and opportunities to showcase their abilities through performances, exhibitions, and leadership experiences, helping them build confidence, discipline, and a foundation for future success.
